For the good of Humanity
...and rotten eggs...
In Mission City

NO shirt
The air was dry and hot outside, despite the night. Lights flashed and painted the walls in teasing, decadent displays...but that was up front.

The alleys were another story entirely. The alleys were dark and cluttered, dusty rather than slimy, with transients crouched in the darker shadows, nursing what ever bottle they had salvaged during the day. The alley...is where the unlikely trio found themselves.

Abe opened the door, catching it when it would have crashed into the wall, then glanced around. No one of import to ask questions it seemed. He waited until his companions were clear, then closed the door with a soft click "Red...I believe you can put the cow down now..."

"Curse huh? Well maybe we can..." Before he has a chance to finish his suggestion the cow is gone and naked guy has taken his place.

"Great. Let's get this guy some pants and get goin now. I need to find me a table game and some free booze." He shrugged out of his trench coat, his usual garment not the one he wore for stripping, and offers it to the boy.

"Ah..." well, at least they wouldn't be stuck in the alley any more?

"I do believe it is rather to late for stores to be open. We shall have to procure pants in another manner. Perhaps a street walker?" he suggested, eying the end of the alley.

"/We will teach you, after we get you...at least pants. You're in luck, it seems the clothing of choice on the streets is leather.../"

Hatsuharu managed a heavily accented "Thank you." to Hellboy when offered the coat, pulling it on. Extreme size difference caused him to look even smaller in it, but it covered him and so that was enough.

"/Cool, cool. I look good in leather. Are there going to be girls with blackjack? Or boys. I'm easy./" Hatsuharu asked as he closed the coat up for coverage and readied to follow Abe and Hellboy.

"Isn't this place like Vegas? Doesn't Vegas never sleep? Or is that New York?" He replied and nodded to Hatsuharu's thanks. "We can't get into casino's if the guy smells like a bum Abe. Or did you mean the other street walkers? Because if we got some of those duds that might work."

He looked up and down the alley and started to walk. "We'll figure something out. That guy have a name?"

Hellboy wasn't so much paying attention to the goings on at the party as he was trying to remember what he'd practiced before he went on and get back into some clothes when he was done.

"This is Mission City" he corrected his friend "Different dimension, same location and values it seems. And yes, it is New York that never sleeps." he sighed.

Abe paused at the end of the alley and looked around..then sighed "No luck yet, only females in sight." and as much as pants were pants...well, the female hookers really weren't wearing any. Fishnets just wouldn't cut it.

"Hatsuharu?" he was pretty sure he'd caught the boys name before he went on stage "/We should worry about clothing before your love-life. When we find a gentleman with appropriate garb, you will need to purchase it. Repeat after me.../" he continued in English "I would like to buy your pants."

Hatsuharu looked up when Abe said his name. Looked like that was correct.

"/Fine, fine.../" he sighed, then attempted to repeat Abe's phrasing. It was off, he knew all the words, just hadn't exactly learned to place them in that order yet. A few more times of trying it got it to be - still heavily accented, but at least understandable english.

"Cow-boy. Got it." Hellboy said, naming the kid with something he could remember easily.

"I'm Red, he's Abe." He jerked a thumb at himself and then Abe and started watching the passing crowd while he listened to the English lesson and scanned the pedestrians for someone who would suit their needs.

"He'll need money, unless he's got some tucked someplace I don't wanna know about. My cash is in the right breast pocket with my cigars."

"We can take the cost of the clothing out of what ever he manages to win this evening" Abe agreed easily. Because, really, it was the better part of valor to not go back inside for the boy's own clothing and money for stripping. Nope, not with the possibility of misunderstood cow conspirists.

At Red's mention of location, Abe easily stepped forward to fish in the coat pockets, brisk and efficient as ever. Nothing personal, Haru...the boy just happened to be wearing the pockets Abe needed access to! He tossed a cigar to Red, then gave a few bills to Haru. "Aha, there, a male...in leather." he pointed.

"/That would be appropriate garb to procure./"

Hatsuharu looked to where Abe was gesturing.

"/...He's cute./" he commented, before adjusting the coat and making his way over to the man Abe pointed at.

The conversation that followed seemed to be a quick one, the kind that made you wince in sympathy at how awkward it looked. Hatsuharu pointed to the guy's pants and repeated the phrase Abe told him, which got a stare and a "...What.", so he had to repeat it again, not able to give a better explanation. After about the third try the streetwalker seemed to understand and was trying hard not to laugh at the absurdity of the situation. He at least understood that Hatsuharu's English was not stellar, and asked as simply as he could if Haru was asking to watch the pants being removed. With the reply of 'no', the poor streetwalker had a "Okay, where's the hidden camera?" moment (which of course Hatsuharu couldn't understand), and in another few minutes he looked around, grabbed Hatsuharu by the sleeve of the coat and pulled him back into a somewhat secluded allyway.

Ten minuets later, Hatsuharu re-emerged, coat open and leather pants securely on his person. And his hair a little mussed. The boy made his way back to Abe and Red, whistling a jaunty tune and hands in his pockets.

"/He thought I was cute, too./" he said by way of explination to Abe.

Red caught the cigar and lit it while watching the kid approach the guy whose pants he was hoping to buy.

He stayed in the alley with Abe keeping an eye on the scene. When Haru was grabbed and pulled into the alley Red nearly went after him.

He held off, waiting for shouts (or moos) and eased up when the kid came back sporting new pants.

"Don't wanna know, Abe." He said before Abe could translate after seeing the boys expression and looking back across the street.

Since they were all wearing pants now Red figured it was time to get to the gambling already. Stepping out of the alley he picked a direction and started walking, figuring they'd hit slot machines and tables games soon enough no matter which way they walked.

"No, you don't" Abe agreed lightly. Some things, well, some things that went bump in the night just didn't need to be examined.

Company policy.

"/Alright. Blackjack is a simple game that relies on counting to twenty-one.../" he began to for Haru as they walked.

"I would like a drink" he shot as an aside to Hellboy. Yes, it burned to drink alcohol...but it was worth it after tonight.
15th-May-2008 06:18 am (UTC)
"/Twenty-one, alright. I know the numbers./" Hatsuharu explained helpfully, feeling rather good about the night as a whole, even with the lost clothing. He followed Abe and Red, resuming whisting to himself.
15th-May-2008 06:38 am (UTC)
"I hear you can buy tall glasses of booze here. Let's find us a few of those."

Is Red surprised Abe was asking for alcohol? A little, but he was also not going to question or deny it.

Hellboy rearranged the itinerary in his head to find booze first, then gamble.

Abe had stripped for females not of his own species, and coached an underage boy through buying clothing off a stripper. He deserved a drink.

At least a drink, as he had a feeling getting rotten eggs was out of the question.

"I will follow you, Red. Your uncanny instinct for trouble should find us a table and waitress soon enough" he sighed, then resumed coaching Haru on the English terms needed for blackjack. Like "Hit me, stay, double down..."
15th-May-2008 08:14 am (UTC)
Maybe better off Abe doesn't know just how underage.

Hatsuharu is a good learner with the gambling at least, eventually able to repeat the phrases back understandably.
